Aucuba Japonica ‘Crotonifolia’, unlike other varieties of Aucuba, will grow in the shade although sunshine will allow its leaves to produce the best speckled colours. This tough, low maintenance plant produces purple flowers in the Spring which are followed by red fruits in the summer and autumn months. A recipient of the Award of Garden Merit by the RHS, the Spotted Laurel can be shaped in Spring to remain a shrub or pruned from mid Spring to late summer to form a garden hedge. Aucuba Japonica ‘Crotonifolia’ is toxic to cats, dogs, people and horses when eaten.
