The Bergenia has become a popular herbaceous perennial choice due to its colourful bedding like nature. They are known as ‘Elephants Ears’ due to their large, leathery, oval shaped foliage. Bursting pink/red flowers form on tall, bright red stems in spring, offering great colour as soon as the weather turns and the garden is once again in use. The large green oval shaped leaves, then begin to turn red in the winter months giving longer added interest. It has become a firm favourite for planting at the front of a border in mass numbers (3’s or 5’s) due to its low growing and colourful nature.
