The Castlewellan Gold is a vigorous grower than can reach heights of 25m or more. They get their “Gold” nickname from the golden-yellow colour of their foliage. They require very little maintenance, even in poor soil and are grown successfully in locations all over the UK. The Castlewellan Gold’s rapid growth will mean that surrounding areas can be quickly overshadowed and so it will probably need to be pruned back each year.

Prune this plant regularly to achieve a neat, clean form, or let them bush-out a little to create a more natural appearance. Whether you’re using a hedge to give your garden some privacy, or as protection from the weather, road and noise pollution, you’ll want to choose a plant that complements the rest of your garden’s visual appearance.
